In keeping with our goal of bringing bluegrass and acoustic music to as many people as possible, and recognizing the many interests and tastes shared by the musical public, the Good Deale Bluegrass Shoppe regularly sponsors different and disparate types of jam sessions.Click on the titles for details and pictures.(coming soon)
FRIDAY NIGHT
JAMS
The weekly Friday night jam sessions are dedicated to no holds barred bluegrass music. Participants range in age from early teens to, well lets just say a considerable bit older than that. Musical ability is similarly wide-ranging. Especially during the warmer months, it is not unusual for as many as 60 - 80 people to show up, some picking, some just listening and enjoying the music.
FLATPICKING
JAMS
On the first Saturday of every month, Good Deale hosts a jam solely for those who enjoy flatpicking old-time fiddle tunes, and other similar pieces. The overall mood is open and friendly, and new pickers are welcome. Again the participants' musical ability ranges widely. These jams were originated by Tom Nelson, a local flatpicker of some note (although we have it on good authority that he is trying very hard to locate the rest of them). Click on the title on the left for some pics by Harry Moore from a recent flatpick jam.
SLOW JAMS FOR BEGINNERS
To provide the opportunity for those who are just beginning to play music, and bluegrass music in particular, Good Deale offers a "slow" jam on the first Monday of each month. These are directly aimed at beginning pickers, and the material is selected for simplicity and ease of playing. There is a $5.00 fee for participants to cover the cost of reproducing the jam material.  Several instructors are in attendance to offer assistance where needed.
